Due to modern examination technology and new materials, it is possible for orthodontists to treat patients of almost every age. This can be done in a cosmetically appealing and inconspicuous way.
In cases of minor misalignment related to tilting, our practice is certified to perform clear-aligner treatments such as Invisalign®.
To achieve more complex teeth and root movements, a fixed solution is needed. To make this cosmetically inconspicuous we often use small, segmented arch wires, which only affect a few teeth, or disappear in the molar area and behind the lips. The most discreet solution is achieved by the so-called “lingual technique”, where braces are fixated to the backs of the teeth. We need to determine on an individual basis whether this technique can be applied.
In the incisor area, we like to use tooth-coloured braces and tooth-coloured orthodontic wire (aka “invisible braces”).
Many adults are unsure whether they should get orthodontic treatment. Here are some advices:
If you observe incisors getting tighter or twisting, you should seek timely treatment. Previously non-existing gaps between teeth could be a sign of periodontal disease. Consult with your dentist or periodontist right away, and also schedule an appointment for a consultation with your orthodontist. If these gaps are left untreated, the periodontal disease might progress and result in loss of teeth long term. If individual teeth appear longer than they used to be, also check in with your orthodontist!
Please do not hesitate if you are unhappy with your teeth or have noticed any of the changes listed above.
Orthodontic treatment is possible at almost any age.
Healthy teeth are quality of life!
